Things to do While Traveling Between Chicago and Indianapolis

Car drives on a sunny road with green landscape scenery

If you’re traveling between Chicago and Indianapolis, there’s no shortage of things to do. The two cities are only about an hour apart by car, so you can easily take advantage of this short driving time by exploring some places in between them. A great tip for you if you’re looking for a family-friendly place to stay in Indianapolis, try the Hilton Garden Inn Indianapolis/North. Their suites come equipped with two TVs and a kitchenette so that you can enjoy some snacks or cook meals.

There are plenty of other things that you can do while you are on the road or after reaching your destination. Here are some of the great options for your road trip between Chicago and Indianapolis:

The Indiana Dunes

The Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is a national park, and it’s an excellent place for visitors to hike, swim, and bike. The dunes are also home to some of the best bird-watching opportunities in the country.

The dunes have some pretty amazing views. From Lake Michigan, you can see Chicago’s skyline or even downtown Indianapolis! And if you’re looking for something different than what’s available in your own time, there are plenty of places nearby where you can rent kayaks or paddle boards to explore these gorgeous lakeside vistas!

Wolf Park

Wolf Park is a wildlife park in Battle Ground, Indiana. It’s home to a pack of wolves and other animals and is open for tours by appointment. The park was founded in 1972 by David Mech, who had been raising wolves since he was 12 years old. He’s been studying wolves for over 50 years. Also, this is one of the world’s leading authorities on the species. Wolf Park is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). This Park is a non-profit organization supported by donations.

The Nashville Zoo

The Nashville Zoo is small but well-maintained and has a great variety of animals. The park is open every day except Christmas Day when it closes at 6 p.m. There’s no admission fee to visit the Nashville Zoo. However, if you’d like to feed the goats or sheep (or even pet them!), that will cost you $1 per person. You can also ride on their train ride around the park for an additional fee of $2 per person (plus tax).

Old Bridges in Central Indiana

Indiana has a lot of old-covered bridges. The Sinking Creek Covered Bridge is the most famous one, located in rural Lawrenceburg. It was built in 1874 and sat on top of the Levisa Fork River. You’ll want to stop at this bridge if you’re looking for an easy way to explore some countryside areas in central Indiana. The old wooden structure is restored and preserved by local residents who feel strongly about its history.

Walk down to Columbus County from Madison County

If you don’t mind spending some time on your feet, a great option is to walk from the Madison County Courthouse Main Street (which runs next to 36). Then you can walk over into Columbus County to see more than 100 historic buildings that date back almost 200 years. You’ll see many different types of buildings on this route, like homes made out of stone from the area, and churches built with brick and clay. Also, there were warehouses used by farmers to ship stuff around Europe back in colonial times. These are all within walking distance of each other so that you can check them out quickly.

The Brown County State Park and Falls of the Ohio

There are several historic buildings and museums at this location, as well as nature trails that allow you to explore the area while learning about its history. It’s also a great place for camping and picnics. The Falls of Ohio is on the southern tip of Indiana near Louisville, Kentucky, and the Brown County State Park. These two places have a lot to offer. But to be honest, the main attraction is the Falls of Ohio, located on the Ohio River.

These two are great places to visit if you enjoy mountain biking or kayaking. It’s also home to many species of birds and fish, including eagles, ospreys, and blue herons. The park is home to several species of birds that are found nowhere else in Indiana, including the bald eagle.

Takeaway

The takeaway from this trip is that you should visit Chicago and Indianapolis on your next road trip. The cities are both beautiful, have an exciting history, and offer plenty of opportunities to explore. If you’re looking for something more than just a quick stopover point between two larger cities, then I would suggest visiting these two cities as part of your itinerary.

To sum it up, there is a lot to do between Chicago and Indianapolis. You can drive around the scenic Indiana Dunes or go on a hike at Wolf Park if you’re looking for something more relaxing. Then, there’s the Nashville Zoo, where they have everything from pandas to elephants!

No doubt! This journey is worth your time. So, if you are interested in traveling to Indianapolis or Chicago and enjoying the scenery while sitting in the back of a comfortable ride, then the ideal way would be to hire a private car service. This will give you comfort and convenience. Even though the ride isn’t very long, you will likely face some issues that could be very lousy in some scenarios. So, it’s better to hire a chauffeured service for this matter because all of the hassles will be on the driver and believe me, they don’t disappoint.
